NAESCO gathers energy service companies, suppliers and federal officials to talk energy efficiency and infrastructure
Federal officials, suppliers, as well as member and non-member energy services (ESCOs) of the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO), gathered this week for a conference focused on the steps and tools necessary to advance energy efficiency and infrastructure.
At the day-long 2020 Federal Market Workshop, presentations and panels highlighting the greater concern energy efficiency has become for governments and the increasing importance of energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs). Even the U.S. Army noted it has begun focusing on resiliency, efficiency, and affordability through such contracts. This, according to Kevin Powell, GSA Center for Emerging Buildings Technology Director, will also provide an opportunity for ESCO project financing.
“Investors, government agencies, and other consumers are increasingly placing a premium upon energy efficiency technologies and processes,” Katie McGinty, the day’s keynote and global vice president of government relations for Johnson Controls, said. “It’s clear that, in order to respond to these changing preferences, energy savings performance contracts will remain vital.”
Dale Hahs, technical assistance provider at the Energy Services Coalition, noted that updates to eProject Builder are also being made to accommodate this changing role. New updates will make project data input easier for both state and local governments and provide improved storage for project data files. The biggest thing for users going forward will be the continual flow of data.
In these regards, the day’s events filled a need for businesses looking to move forward in a changing time.
“The federal energy efficiency and infrastructure marketplace is one of the largest for energy service providers, and we understand that accessing and successfully navigating this sector is crucial for our members,” NAESCO Executive Director Timothy Unruh said. “Providing our valued members and guests with the actionable steps and tools they need to accomplish that is a responsibility we take seriously.”
