Pacific Power seeking applications for renewable energy projects through Blue Sky program

Portland, Oregon-based Pacific Power is now accepting applications for new renewable energy projects in its service area through its Blue Sky program, an initiative that has funded more than $10 million of local renewable energy projects since 2006.

Past projects included partnerships with community-focused organizations, which added more than 100 new renewable energy projects in Oregon, Washington and California. Those projects added more than eight megawatts of renewable power capacity to the energy grid.

Eligible renewable energy projects can include those that support technologies, such as wind, solar, low-emissions biomass, wave, landfill gas, certified low-impact hydro, pipeline or irrigation canal hydropower and geothermal.

Pacific Power said the program encourages projects that advance new and emerging technologies, including renewable energy systems tied to electric vehicle charging, energy storage systems or micro grid applications. In addition, projects aimed at currently under-served populations, such as low-income and rural communities, are also sought, as are initiatives that help bolster community energy resiliency and disaster preparedness.

To be considered for the competitive application process, interested parties must complete and submit an application form along with additional materials to Pacific Power by Sept. 29, 2017.

Blue Sky funding is available to non-residential customers proposing projects in Pacific Power’s service area, are locally-owned, and have a generating capacity of less than 10 megawatts of electricity. Projects must be completed by Dec. 31, 2018.

Blue Sky is a voluntary program that Pacific Power customers can enroll in that the company says helps build a larger market for renewable energy by increasing demand.
