A partnership between Harris Corporation and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) will advance communications capabilities for FPL’s operations region – an area that serves approximately ten million people.
The new digital network will upgrade FPL’s analog radio communications network to a new digital system across Florida, which will enable the utility to reach field crews more quickly when handling power outages.
“Harris and Florida Power & Light have a long history of working together and implementing cutting-edge solutions that benefit our customers throughout the state,” Eric Silagy, president and CEO of FPL said. “This represents an example of two major Florida companies working together to provide our residents with the best level of service and support possible.”
The system upgrade will provide advanced handheld radios and command center dispatch consoles for more than 3,000 employees in the field, enabling the nation’s third-largest utility to improve service for its customer base.
“Florida Power & Light and Harris share a strong commitment to innovation, and we are proud to partner with FPL to support millions of Floridians, including 6,500 Harris employees who call Florida home,” William M. Brown, chairman, president, and CEO of Harris Corporation said. “This initiative extends Harris’ legacy of providing advanced technology to the state’s utilities, first responders and other customers with mission critical communications needs.”
