Duke Energy announced Wednesday that it completed the bulk of the power restoration work needed in Florida following Hurricane Irma with the exception of a few scattered outages.
Crews have so far restored 1.9 million outages, some of which have required rebuilding infrastructure.
“Our power restoration work is almost complete,” Harry Sideris, Duke Energy Florida’s president said. The finish line is in sight and we will soon have our final few customers’ lights back on. We thank our customers for their patience. We also thank the numerous utility companies from across the nation that provided assistance, as well as emergency responders and disaster relief organizations that helped restore our communities after this historic hurricane.”
Duke Energy invited customers to view details on outages, including an outage map, on the company’s website. It also urged them to report outages to the company online or by phone and be wary of potential scams involving restoring power.
Restoration may be delayed, Duke said, for customers whose electric meters box had been damaged. An electrician must make repairs and an electrical inspection may need to be conducted for Duke can reconnect power.
