NEMA and BCSE applaud new DoE and CoStar Group partnership
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) applauded a new partnership announced on Friday between the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) and the CoStar Group.
“NEMA has long promoted increased energy performance transparency as a means of advancing energy efficiency in commercial, government-owned, and multifamily buildings,” NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff said. “By prominently displaying energy performance information like ENERGY STAR portfolio manager scores, energy use intensity, and other energy-related metrics for tens of thousands of buildings over the next few years, CoStar Group will accelerate investments in energy-efficient products and building operations that support local construction and manufacturing jobs in communities around the country.”
Through the partnership, the CoStar Group will be responsible for publicizing information regarding the energy performance of its commercial real estate listings. The partnership is part of the Obama administration’s larger Better Buildings Initiative, run by the DoE and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“The council applauds the partnership announced today between DOE and CoStar Group, Inc., as a significant step towards expanding the visibility of energy efficient buildings in U.S. property markets,” BCSE President Lisa Jacobson said. “The online availability of building efficiency information such as ENERGY STAR scores, whole building usage intensity, and annual greenhouse gas emissions will promote transparency and create benefits for commercial real estate consumers.”
