AES Ohio files electric security plan focused on upgrading network, reliability

AES Ohio proposed a new Electric Security Plan (ESP) to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) this week that would improve reliability, price stability and local economic development. 

While intending to increase investments into distribution infrastructure and deploy a proactive vegetation management program, the company said it recognized the need for affordable rates, and would work to maintain them. If approved, the company’s plan would result in a less than $1 per month bill increase for a residential customer using 750 kilowatt hours per month. 

AES Ohio also proposed new programs revolving around smart technologies, rolling out energy efficiency and cost savings efforts for residential and low-income customers. 

“We understand, first and foremost, our customers want reliable service while maintaining affordable rates,” Kristina Lund, AES Ohio President and CEO, said. “With the lowest distribution rates in Ohio, this plan provides a mechanism to strengthen reliability well into the future and protect our customers from volatile market-driven cost impacts.”

Lund added that AES is also eyeing new pricing incentives to encourage further growth and expansion of companies in the area in order to support local jobs.
