Major development grant awarded to SUNY Smart System Technology & Commercialization Center
Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) recently announced its decision to award a $180,000 economic development grant to the Smart System Technology & Commercialization Center (STC) at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE).
“NYSEG and RG&E have a decades-long history of supporting growing businesses, as well as universities and facilities such as STC, through our robust economic development programs,” Mark S. Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E, said. “This particular grant aligns with Governor Cuomo’s strategy for fostering high-tech partnerships that bolster and expand New York State’s innovation economy. We are pleased to support STC and wish them continued success.”
The grant, awarded to aid innovative electric infrastructure improvements, will support STC’s groundbreaking work on electrical transformers that will help reduce fluctuations in voltage supplied to sensitive semiconductor equipment, protecting in-process products from costly damage.
“SUNY Poly CNSE’s STC is grateful for the support from NYSEG and RG&E to make these critical infrastructure upgrades at our Canandaigua facility,” Paul Tolley, CNSE vice president for disruptive technology and executive director of STC, said. “The semiconductor industry relies on high quality power to ensure that the sensitive equipment used in the commercialization of these technologies operates within spec and meets the needs of our commercial partners. This investment does just that.”
