Addressing issues of space and aesthetics for potential residential solar customers, NRG Energy recently announced the completion of a community solar facility in Massachusetts that will provide clean energy to 170 homes.

“Going solar has never been easier or more affordable,” Drew Warshaw, vice president of community solar at NRG, said. “If your roof faces north instead of south, if you have a tree you don’t want to cut down or if you simply don’t want solar panels on your roof, community solar is a great solution. It gives you long-term savings, price stability to avoid spikes in your utility bill and the chance to support clean energy – all without doing anything to your house.”

The facility, located in Pepperell, Mass., contains more than 4,000 photovoltaic panels with a generation capacity of 1.3 MW DC (1 MW AC), and is already fully subscribed. Each subscriber has signed a 20-year agreement with NRG, receiving price stability and savings on their power bill based on net energy generation at the project.

“Generating electricity from renewable energy offers significant public benefits and health dividends,” Stephen Themelis, chairman of the Pepperell board of selectmen, said. “The town of Pepperell welcomes the opportunity to be part of this important and sustainable project for renewable energy resources now, and in the future.”
