Duke Energy crews and contractors worked tirelessly to restore power within 48 hours to more than 220,000 Florida customers who lost power due to extreme weather following Hurricane Hermine, the company announced on Monday.

“Our crews and contractors have been working around-the-clock to restore power and respond to emergency assistance calls since the storm passed,” Duke Energy Florida Storm Director Luis Ordaz said. “We’ve brought in additional resources to speed restoration times. We appreciate the patience of our customers while we work through the storm damage.”

Duke Energy set a goal to restore power to all customers impacted by the storm by Monday night. By 2 p.m. on Labor Day, 99 percent of Florida Duke Energy customers had power. Some customers reported ongoing outages, to which Duke Energy crews continued to respond.

Duke Energy de-energized approximately 250 homes to ensure the safety of customers who experienced flooding in Pinellas and Pasco counties. Duke Energy officials said that power would be restored to these homes once officials deemed it safe to do so.

Duke Energy crew and contractors also responded to the emergency 911 calls of its customers. During such times, Duke Energy supports up-to-date weather and energy updates on its website and social media accounts, so customers can check on outages and emergency response.

Duke Energy Florida has invested $1.4 billion in energy infrastructure updates since 2004.
