Black Hills Energy Offers 500kW solar garden to developers

The Black Hills Corporation, doing business as Black Hills Energy – Colorado Electric in Colorado, recently announced that it will offer a 500kW Community Solar Garden standard offering to solar developers this spring.

The program is the second of its kind offered in the Black Hills this year and is currently accepting offers on a first-come, first-served basis.

Community Solar Gardens was developed as an alternative energy resource for consumers who otherwise cannot own solar energy resources. Many participants include Colorado residents who rent their homes, or whose homes are not suitable for solar and PV rooftop systems, but want an alternative energy resource that is less harmful to the environment.

The new 500kW Community Solar Garden Standard Offer will serve as a supplement to the existing 120kW garden operating in the Black Hills service territory. Black Hills Energy – Colorado Electric serves approximately 95,000 Colorado electric customers. The initiative is also an effort to offer a broader renewable energy portfolio to consumers.

Black Hills Energy will offer a competitive bid request for proposals (RFP) later this spring, estimated at up to 2 MW in value.
