Chanette Armstrong appointed director of DoE’s office of Technology Transitions

Chanette Armstrong will oversee the Department of Energy’s (DoE) program offices, national laboratories, and research and production facilities following her appointment Monday as director of the Office of Technology Transitions (OTT), Energy Secretary Rick Perry announced.

Established in 2015, OTT works to expand the commercial reach of DoE research and development activities. Its goals are to promote the nation’s economic, energy and national security interests.

“Ms. Armstrong’s engineering background coupled with her extensive private sector experience makes her an outstanding appointment for OTT director,” Perry said. “The Department of Energy is already one of the largest supporters of technology transfer within the federal government, and I’m confident that under her leadership, we’ll further accelerate innovation and advance commercialization for the benefit of the American people.”

Prior to her appointment, Armstrong worked as a patent attorney. She earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University, a master’s degree from Long Island University and a juris doctorate degree from State University of New Jersey-Rutgers Law School.

In addition to her duties as director of OTT, Armstrong will lead the Energy Investor Center and the Technology Commercialization Fund and coordinate technology transfer activities. She will also lead DoE Efforts to commercialize early-stage technologies being developed in national laboratories.
