Entergy Louisiana began construction yesterday on a $100 million technological upgrade to its electric power transmission grid in Jefferson Davis Parish to enhance reliability and increase transmission capacity in the region.

“This project represents Entergy Louisiana’s ongoing commitment to providing reliable, affordable electricity to our customers while helping grow our state’s economy,” Chip Arnould, senior region manager of customer service for Entergy Louisiana, said.

The project, which Entergy first announced in December, covers approximately 900 square miles. It involves the replacement or upgrade of more than 58 miles of transmission and distribution lines. The new and rebuilt sections of line will use reinforced high-voltage wire and steel structures that can withstand winds of up to 140 miles per hour.

Transmission line construction began along Highway 395 between Grand Marais Road and Doise Road. Construction will cause some lane closures. A few locations will experience brief service interruptions as a result of this project.

Entergy expects to complete the project by February 2020, depending upon weather and other variables.
