The New Orleans City Council recently approved a multi-year plan from Entergy New Orleans to install advanced meters in Orleans Parish.

“We applaud the council’s action in laying the foundation for grid-modernization technologies that not only will create a smarter energy future for our city, but also offer a wide range of benefits to our customers,” Charles Rice, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans, said.

Entergy New Orleans is currently designing the systems and infrastructure to support the new meters. It plans to begin installing the meters in early 2019 and expects to complete the installations by the end of 2021. The company’s natural gas customers will also have their gas meters retrofitted with new technology.

The new meters will provide access to more timely and detailed usage data to Entergy and its customers and allow the company to detect outages more quickly.
