Georgia Public Service Commission Chair Stan Wise steps down
Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) Chair Stan Wise stepped down Tuesday after chairing his final Commission Administrative Session.
Wise served on the Commission for almost 24 years and had chaired the Commission since Jan. 1, 2017.
“This Commission is the very best, they know the issues and I salute my colleagues for what they’ve done,” Wise said in his departing remarks. “We’ve left this state better than we found it.”
Wise was first elected to the Commission in 1994 and was re-elected in 2000, 2006 and 2012. Wise noted in his departing remarks that he has served with 11 different commissioners during his time on the PSC.
Before serving on the Commission, Wise served on the Cobb County Commission from 1990 to 1992. He also represented Cobb County on the Atlanta Regional Commission and served six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
Under state law, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal will appoint a successor who will stand for election in November for a full six-year term.
