NorthWestern Energy issues RFP for Montana renewable energy projects

From now until April, NorthWestern Energy is seeking proposals for projects of up to 45 megawatts of renewables-based generation for operations in Montana.

Specifically, they are looking for Community Renewable Energy Projects (CREP), so while developers, landowners, energy companies and Montana businesses are welcome to submit proposals, non-CREP renewable projects will be rejected. Power Purchase Agreements and Build-Transfer arrangements will also be considered. Potential projects must come with targeted operating dates up to late 2020, in case NorthWestern seeks advance approval by the Montana Public Service Commission (MPSC).

A focus of the arrangement will be cost-effectiveness for NorthWestern Energy’s customers–a requirement under state law. Proposals will be bound by the statutes and policies of the MPSC, and final selection will be made in June.
