Lowered corporate tax rate brings reduction for Black Hills Energy annual bills

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will benefit the Kansas energy market, with Black Hills Energy customers set to regain an average of $11 annually off their energy bills.

This is the result of a total cost savings for Black Hills Energy customers of $1,718,203. The break down per customers was calculated through the Kansas Corporation Commission’s rate structure. Customers type and usage factor in, so the actual benefits received will vary depending on the customer.

“The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act reduced the amount of corporate income taxes our company pays and we are passing those savings along to our customers,” Jerry Watkins, general manager of Kansas natural gas operations, said. “We appreciate the KCC working with us to quickly provide the benefits of the change in corporate tax rates to our customers on their energy bills and we will continue to work to provide Kansans with safe and affordable energy.”

The federal changes reduced the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. Kansas customers will begin seeing the changes as of April.
