U.S. offshore wind market eyes in Fred. Olsen Windcarrier, Falcon Global agreement
Falcon Global LLC and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier AS signed an exclusive cooperation agreement last week that utilizes vessels and marine/installation crews to get in on the U.S. offshore wind power market.
This allows the pair to proceed using Windcarrier’s experienced Wind Turbine installation vessels and Falcon Global’s own fleet sizeable fleet. By their estimation it will allow for installation of the largest turbines on the market, utilizing a mix of up to four vessels at a time depending on installation needs. Their hope is the union will also shorten installation periods and reduce costs of installation. Plus, that opens up two companies’ access to existing ports and infrastructure.
“The two companies combine the best of US marine expertise and Jones Act compliant liftboats with European offshore wind know-how and class leading jack-up vessels for the upcoming US offshore wind farms,” Ketil Arvesen, vice president of Fred Olsen Ocean, said. “This unique combination of available assets and experience in an exclusive agreement will enable installation of multi megawatt offshore turbines in the US, bringing business case certainty to the developers. We are proud to team up with Falcon Global and SEACOR Marine in an exclusive agreement to make this happen.”
The two companies previously worked together on the installation of five turbines as part of the first offshore U.S. wind farm.
