Avista recently announced a voluntary solar program, which will be powered by a new 28-megawatt (MW) DC solar project, for large business customers in Washington state.

The solar array will be located in Lind, Washington, and will be comprised of more than 81,000 panels on an approximately 170-acre site. The plant is 25 times larger than the current largest array in Washington, Avista said.

The solar program, called Solar Select, was developed through collaboration between Avista, the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, Strata Solar and the WSU Energy Program.

Construction of the new facility is scheduled to start this spring. Avista expects the project to enter commercial operation in mid-December 2018.

Avista will offer participation in Solar Select to its large commercial and industrial electric customers in Washington on a first come, first served basis. Official enrollment will begin in May 1, 2018.
