Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to hold hearings on UGI Electric rate increase request

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) recently announced that it scheduled two “Smart Hearings” for mid-April to gather public input on the rate increase request that UGI Electric submitted in January.

The PUC will also broadcast the hearings on its website. Customers may attend the in person or by telephone.

The initial request submitted by UGI Electric’s initial request proposed an annual revenue increase of $9.254 million, or 10.4 percent. Due to new federal tax laws, the company lowered the proposed increase to $8.491 million, or 9.5 percent.

Under the revised proposal, the average monthly bill for a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month would increase by 1056 percent from $112.28 to $124.14.

On March 1, the PUC voted to investigate the proposed rate increase. The request was suspended for up to seven months and assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for an investigation and recommended decision.
