Oracle Utilities announces $2 billion in savings generated by Opower Energy Efficiency programs

Oracle Utilities announced Tuesday that the utility bill savings from its Opower Energy Efficiency programs have reached $2 billion.

Since their launch in 2008, the programs have led to saving more than 17 Terawatt-hours (TWh) at more than 100 electric and gas utilities.

One of these utilities, National Grid, has contributed electricity savings of more than one TWh and gas savings of more than 45 million therms since deploying the Opower Energy Efficiency program in 2009.

“National Grid has leveraged a range of Opower solutions, including the Energy Efficiency program, to transform their relationship with customers and correspondingly improve their business overall. In a highly competitive market, customer satisfaction is paramount for success, and it all starts with personalized customer engagement,” Rodger Smith, senior vice president and general manager of Oracle Utilities, said. “We applaud National Grid for their commitment to providing the best possible experience for their customers and are gratified by the integral role that they have played in our savings success story.”

National Grid has also employed other Opower solutions including Digital Self Service Energy Management web tools, which provide customers with personalized energy insights and recommendations, and segmented campaigns to improve participation in programs such as income assistance.

In their Clifton Park territory, National Grid also implemented a program called Peak Time Rewards, which incentivizes customers to reduce peak electric load and overall electric and gas consumption by offering reward points that can be exchanged for gift cards.
