Minnesota Power reported its annual savings for 2017 in a filing to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission this month, revealing 2.6 percent of eligible retail sales in total energy savings and massive hits to CO2 emissions.

“Rapid changes in the energy efficiency landscape are making it more challenging to meet the state goal, but our Power of One team continues to find solutions that are the right fit for customers,” Tina Koecher, manager of customer solutions for Minnesota Power, said. “We work hard to streamline programs, develop new strategies and reach out to customers in innovative ways.”

The state goal in question was set back in 2010, at 1.5 percent. As such, Minnesota Power’s latest target placed well above that figure — and they have met or exceeded the state goal since it first went into effect. In this case, the reduction of energy use totaled more than 72,400,000 kilowatt-hours and elimination of CO2 emissions by nearly 60,000 tons. The latter is essentially like stripping 11,500 cars off the road for 2017.

This was achieved through the company’s Power of One program, an energy conservation program that works with homeowners, businesses, and communities at large. It engages both smaller commercial projects and large-scale projects alike to achieve its ends.
