The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), a part of the Department of Energy, last week approved construction of the Albuquerque Complex Project in what they hope to be a cost-cutting measure.
The reason for the cost-cutting hopes is that construction of the single-building facility will replace an existing, sprawling complex of 25 buildings. It will pull approximately 1,200 employees into one location and allow them to cut maintenance costs by as much as $40 million.
“Our dedicated employees at sites across the country deserve high-quality workspace,” DOE Under Secretary for Nuclear Security and NNSA Administrator Lisa E. Gordon-Hagerty said. “The Albuquerque Complex Project demonstrates NNSA’s commitment to achieving this goal and modernizing our infrastructure.”
