Georgia Power highlights progress on Vogtle Unit 3 project
Georgia Power announced Tuesday several milestones for Unit 3 at the Vogtle nuclear expansion project near Waynesboro, Georgia.
On Sunday, the company said, workers placed the passive residual heat removal (PRHR) heat exchanger inside the Unit 3 containment vessel. The heat exchanger is a feature of the AP1000 reactor’s passive core cooling system, which is part of the larger AP1000 passive safety system.
Workers at the site also recently placed the CA55 module, the first roof module for the in-containment refueling water storage tank. The CA55 module, which weighs approximately 170,000 pounds, will be where the integrated head package is placed during a refueling outage.
Georgia Power also recently released its latest Vogtle Timeline video, which highlights the work done at the Vogtle site in the first quarter of 2018.
Topics featured in the video include the placement of the 306-ton Unit 4 reactor vessel, decreased projects costs due to changes in federal tax laws and full receipt of the Toshiba parent guarantee payments, volunteer events in which Plant Vogtle workers participated and the Vogtle Emergency Response Team, a team of first responders for workplace emergencies and injuries to site personnel.
Customers also received the first of three $25 credits for the Vogtle nuclear expansion on their bills this month, Georgia Power said.
