Nuclear Regulatory Commission invites public comment in review of administrative regulations
Amid ongoing efforts to identify outdated or duplicative administrative regulations, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued a call on Thursday for public comments to improve how applicants submit licensing information, maintain records and report to the commission.
The public comment period will extend through July 2. Additionally, NRC will hold two public hearings to provide more information on the review process and recommendations to address outdated or duplicative administrative regulations. Information will be posted in the Federal Register and online at least 10 days before the meetings are scheduled to take place.
“The goal of the retrospective review is to enhance the management and administration of regulatory activities and to ensure the agency’s regulations remain current and effective,” an NRC release stated. “The review is intended to identify regulatory changes that are administrative in nature and which will make information submittal, recordkeeping and reporting processes more efficient for the agency, applicants, and licensees. This effort is limited to identifying outdated or duplicative, non-substantive administrative regulations.”
