Kentucky Utilities Company unveils electric vehicle charging station in Elizabethtown, Kentucky

Kentucky Utilities Company (KU) recently unveiled a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

The facility is the ninth publicly accessible station launched as part of the KU and its Louisville Gas and Electric Company (LG&E) Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program. Through the utilities’ Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program, eligible customers can host electric vehicle charging stations at their locations for public or private use.

“We’re excited to offer this service in Elizabethtown because it provides another publicly-accessible option for EV drivers, which helps to ease charging anxiety between charging locations,” David Huff, director of Energy Efficiency and Emerging Technologies for KU and LG&E, said. “Offering this program gives us an opportunity to learn more about electric vehicle technology and the interests and needs of EV drivers.”

The facility is located along Interstate 65 and the Bluegrass and Western Kentucky Parkways at 201 S. Main St. in the Quince lot.

The station can charge two vehicles at one time, has digital display screens, and offers quick-pay options. Drivers will pay an hourly fee to use the charging stations, which differ depending on location but average approximately $3 per hour.

“Our downtown revitalization efforts are progressing each day,” Elizabethtown Mayor Edna Berger said. “We are very excited to offer this convenience to our local and visiting EV drivers.”
