FirstEnergy shuffles management in utility operations

A series of promotions saw a change in management at the FirstEnergy Corp. this week, focused on the utility operations which support electricity delivery to its customers.

Among the management shifts announced was the retirement of Mark Julian, vice president of Utility Operations, who will now be replaced by the vice president of Compliance and Regulated Services, Jim Haney. Haney, in turn, will report to George Farah, the newly named vice president of Sustainability and Utility Services. In these roles, Haney will be responsible for regulation generation, environmental and utility services, while Farah will manage corporate sustainability efforts and regulated generation services.

Taking on Haney’s old role will be Bob Mattiuz, who will also serve as chief Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) compliance officer.

Meanwhile, Rich Sweeney, formerly the regional president of Toledo Edison, is now regional president of Ohio Edison and Penn Power and is now the manager of daily operations at both utilities. His predecessor, Randy Frame, is now executive director of the Emerging Technologies Program, while Sweeney’s own former role with Toledo Edison will be taken over by Mark Jones. At the same time, Lorna Wisham was appointed vice president of Community Outreach and Support for the Illuminating Company.

FirstEnergy operates 10 electric distribution companies.
