Mahnomen Health Center completes two-year lighting project thanks to Otter Tail rebate

Due in part to a $23,500 rebate from the Otter Tail Power Company, the Mahnomen Health Center of Minnesota has completed a two-year energy-efficiency project.

The money went toward upgrading existing lights to LEDs, and identifying efficiency measures for the center. It was part of a project that began in 2016 when Mahnomen commissioned a study through Otter Tail’s Minnesota Conservation Improvement Program, meant to ensure their building systems were operating at peak performance.

That report gave them recommendations on how to proceed. It led to changes in controls and scheduling of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems alike.

“Mahnomen Health Center recently finished a complete retrofit of all interior fixtures to LED—more than 2,230 new LED lamps,” Roger Garton, Otter Tail Power Company Energy Management Representative, said. “With our company’s $23,500 rebate, we project a one-year simple payback on this lighting project.”

Such rebates are one piece of a larger program Otter Tail provides to its consumers, which it utilizes to help consumers use electricity more efficiently.
