Rubber manufacturing company saves nearly $100,000 energy savings through incentives
Weir Minerals of Salt Lake City, a rubber manufacturing company, announced this week that they had saved enough energy to power 160 average homes thanks to business incentives provided by Rocky Mountain Power.
Rocky Mountain Power operates a business incentive program known as wattsmart. That program provided Weir with a savings and incentive report last year that addressed means of energy management and savings opportunities. Weir responded to the recommendations, investing $332,597 in making the changes necessary.
“The project was a no brainer really,” Ryan Custer, lean engineer at Weir, said. “We saw a drop in energy usage and peak kilowatt usage, with a slight increase in power factor. All of these equated to more money in our pocket and fewer monthly penalties.”
Rocky Mountain Power helped them along with a $150,901 incentive. For a company that operates 24/7, it has led to approximately $97,112 in energy savings and more than 1.4 million kilowatt hours.
