Appalachian Power announces line route for West Virginia infrastructure upgrades

Appalachian Power announced its proposed line route for the Ravenswood Area Improvements Project in Charleston, W.V.

The power company determined the route from feedback given by local landowners and community members at an open house that took place in May.

“The information we gathered at the open house and continued on-going conversations with landowners is invaluable in our decision-making process,” Phil Moye, corporate communications manager for Appalachian Power, said. “Our inclusive process helps determine a line route that increases electric reliability for our customers while minimizing impacts to the environment and community.”

The $60 million Ravenswood Area Improvements Project will modernize approximately 30 miles of regional electric transmission infrastructure to reduce the likelihood of extended power outages.

Construction will start in the fall of 2019 and last about two years. The contractor, O.R. Colan, will begin contacting landowners along the line route. More information on the project, including a map of the proposed line route, can be found on Appalachian Power’s website.

Appalachian Power — a unit of American Electric Power — provides power to about 1 million customers in Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee. AEP is one of the largest electric utilities in the country, providing electricity to some 5.4 million customers in 11 states.
