Central Hudson Gas & Electric program provides 1 mln LED light bulbs

In an effort to lower energy bills and reduce emissions, a program offered by Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation has either encouraged customers to purchase or provided them with 1 million LED light bulbs since 2016.

“LED light bulbs have come a long way in helping our customers manage their energy use while improving lighting at home and in the workplace,” Charles Freni, senior vice president of Customer Services and Transmission & Distribution Operations at Central Hudson, said. “Our programs and partnerships have made a real difference in offering low-cost LED lighting to our customers while reducing their energy bills, conserving resources and protecting the environment.”

Hudson estimates that the light bulbs will end up saving their customers a combined $153 million in lowered energy costs over their lifetime. They could also reduce energy use by as much as 782 million kilowatt-hours and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 368,000 tons. The switch-up is being offered through Central Hudson’s online store, through instant rebates provided by their local home centers, and through their Community Lighting Program which offers free light bulbs to those in need.

LED, or light emitting diode, light bulbs have been estimated to reduce electricity used for lighting operations by anywhere between 70 to 90 percent and last up to 25 years longer than incandescent bulbs.
