The National Energy & Utility Affordability Coalition (NEUAC) recently honored efforts to expand New Jersey’s outreach efforts to low and moderate-income utility customers, through a collaboration between investor-owned utilities.
The national non-profit granted the Corporate Excellence Award to Rockland Electric Company and six partner utilities for their efforts. These efforts include work on the New Jersey SHARES program, as well as its Universal Service Fund and Comfort Partners Program.
“In addition to its collaborative efforts, Rockland Electric will soon offer free energy audits and free direct installation of energy efficiency measures to low-income customers,” Susann Brown, Rockland Electric customer energy services specialist, said. “Low-income customers typically spend more than 15 percent of their total annual income on their energy costs. Rockland Electric is committed to providing solutions that will reduce low-income customers’ energy costs while making their homes safer, healthier and more comfortable.”
NEUAC is a coalition of member organizations and individuals dedicated to improving awareness of low-income customers’ energy needs. They also promote public-private partnerships and encourage activities to more actively aid those customers.
