The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) recently released its “PowerForward: A Roadmap to Ohio’s Electricity Future,” which describes a future vision for the state’s electric grid.

“This roadmap is bold, and we see it as our duty to chart a path forward for Ohio,” PUCO Chairman Asim Z. Haque said. “Through PowerForward we express a vision that will allow the state to pursue grid modernization responsibly.”

The roadmap describes a regulatory paradigm designed to encourage access to innovations and envisions the grid as a secure and open-access platform with which customers can easily interface.

The document will continue through the PowerForward Collaborative and associated work groups, which will monitor the marketplace and provide recommendations to the PUCO on issues such as electric vehicle charging stations, battery storage, distribution system planning, and data access. It will also inform future utility regulatory filings and proceedings to support the advancement of grid modernization initiatives.

PowerForward: A Roadmap to Ohio’s Electricity Future is the result of approximately 18 months of public dialog regarding how the PUCO can improve the electricity experience for Ohio through innovation.
