The American Electric Power (AEP) Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) issued a request for proposals (RFP) on Wednesday for the purchase of recently developed wind energy assets to diversify its renewable energy portfolio.

“With the potential purchase of newly completed wind energy facilities, we are continuing SWEPCO’s strategy of diversifying our resource mix to provide reliable and affordable electricity for our customers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas,” SWEPCO President and CEO Venita McCellon-Allen said. “Our plans include significant increases in renewable energy, including wind and solar, and energy efficiency over the next 20 years. SWEPCO already has 469 megawatts of wind energy through purchase power agreements. With this RFP, we are seeking additional low-cost wind energy resources to serve our customers.”

SWEPCO is seeking proposals for up to 100 megawatts of wind energy assets. All infrastructure must have a nameplate rating of 80 megawatts and must be interconnected to the Southwest Power Pool in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kansas or Missouri. Facilities should also be commercially operational by Dec. 31, 2018.

All proposals will be subject to the regulatory approval of the Arkansas Public Service Commission, the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Louisiana Public Service Commission.

The RFP was issued on behalf of the American Electric Power Service Corp., also a unit of AEP.

All RFPs are due by Sept. 15.
