DTE Energy is seeking the public’s input regarding the utilities’ long-term plans to transform to what it describes as affordable, cleaner energy that will power Michigan’s future.

“DTE is committed to reducing carbon emissions by more than 80 percent by 2050 so it is imperative that we carve the right path forward,” Trevor Lauer, president and COO of DTE Electric, said. “Getting our customers’ input early in the process ensures what matters most to them is taken into consideration, as we work to achieve the right balance of energy sources that will provide cleaner, affordable, reliable and secure power to our 2.2 million customers for decades to come.”

The Detroit-based utility is expected to submit its Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) to the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) in March 2019, as part of a requirement within the state’s energy law passed in 2016, officials said, adding once the IRP is submitted, the commission has one year to review the plan.

Officials said a public open house on Oct. 23 in Detroit would afford the community an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments about how DTE plans to meet Michigan’s energy needs over the next 15 years.
