DTE Energy announced last week the release of its 2017 Energy Waste Reduction Annual Report, which revealed that those customers who were enrolled in DTE energy efficiency programs in 2017 would collectively save $649 million on their energy bills over a lifetime.

Such programs can be especially promising for businesses. DTE allows for free home and business energy consultations, but it also grants lighting discounts through local retailers, rebates on high-efficiency equipment and discounts on more efficient appliances. So far, the utility has conducted more than 38,000 home energy consultations to help customers lower energy use.

“At DTE, we are committed to helping our customers save energy and lower their energy bills,” John Boladian, director of Energy Waste Reduction at DTE Energy, said. “We provide more than 20 programs and wide-spread education and awareness efforts to help our residential and business customers on their energy efficiency journey.”

DTE has also installed more than 14,000 apartments with high-efficiency products such as LED light bulbs, recycled 27,000 appliances thus far through its Appliance Recycling program, issues tens of thousands of free energy efficiency kits and poured hours into energy efficiency programs through various schools. Support for low-income customers is also growing, with 160,000 LED light bulbs and 3,000 certified refrigerators donated to them.
