Duke Energy prepares for commercial, industrial renewable energy expansion in South Carolina
Duke Energy recently proposed a new expanded renewable energy program that would afford industrial and commercial customers in South Carolina that option to meet greater environmental and sustainability goals.
The company said it has received significant interest from large commercial and industrial customers surrounding the sustainability issue, and their new proposal is an effort to help them achieve it.
The Green Source Advantage program will offer customers bill credits for energy produced by a solar site not located on their premises. It will also allow customers to retain renewable energy certificates (RECs) produced by the facility. In all, this could amount to as much as 150 MW of reserved renewable energy capacity.
Participation in the first-come, first-served program is contingent on approval of the program by the Public Service Commision of South Carolina (PSCSC), however. The program builds on prior efforts by Duke Energy to advance renewables interest, such as with a Shared Solar Program that allows its customers to participate in the renewable marketplace without installing solar panels at their homes or businesses.
