William Yardley was elected chairman of the board of directors at the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America this week.

Yardley, who is executive vice president at energy transportation company Enbridge, will serve for a one-year term through October 2019.

“During a period of both great challenges and great opportunities for the natural gas transmission industry, Bill is well qualified to lead INGAA in promoting pipelines as the indispensable link needed to translate our energy abundance into economic prosperity,” INGAA President and CEO Don Santa, said. “Bill’s decades of management experience and his expert knowledge of the industry and the market make him perfectly suited to be INGAA’s leader in communicating to policymakers the economic and environmental benefits made possible by our nation’s safe, resilient natural gas pipeline network.”

As chairman, Yardley will focus on promoting the benefits of natural gas infrastructure to policymakers and key influencers; supporting policies that build public confidence in the safety, reliability, and resiliency of natural gas pipelines; and encouraging regulatory reforms that ensure the predictability and efficiency of the pipeline permitting process.

“I am honored and excited by the opportunity to lead INGAA,” Yardley said. “These are critical times for our industry, and INGAA’s role as a champion for natural gas infrastructure is more important than ever. We must continue to build and maintain public confidence in the safety and reliability of our pipelines. And we must ensure that policymakers and regulators support the steady growth of our industry so that the U.S. continues to realize the economic and environmental benefits of its abundant natural gas supply.”

At Calgary-based Enbridge, Yardley leads the company’s natural gas pipeline and midstream business across North America. He also serves as chairman of the Board of Spectra Energy Partners. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Colby College and a master’s degree in business administration from Northeastern University. He also completed Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

The INGAA board also elected Stanley Chapman, executive vice president at TransCanada, as first vice chairman, and David Slater, executive vice president at DTE Midstream as second vice chairman.
