Kentucky Power names new president, COO

American Electric Power announced this week that Brett Mattison has been named president and chief operating officer of Kentucky Power.

Mattison, 54, moves into the new role from Kentucky Power’s sister company, Southwestern Electric Power Co., where he was director of customer services and marketing. He will have responsibility for all aspects of electric service for Kentucky Power’s customers, effective Jan. 1. Both companies are subsidiaries of American Electric Power.

“I look forward to carrying out the commitments the Kentucky Power team has made especially in economic development and to further enhance the overall customer experience by providing reliable and affordable electricity to all of our customers,” Mattison said. At Southwestern Electric Power, Mattison was responsible for account management, metering services, energy efficiency programs, and process improvement.

Mattison replaces Matthew Satterwhite, 45, who was promoted to vice president of Regulatory Services at AEP. He will relocate to AEP’s headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

“We have made great strides in rebuilding the economy, and I have loved being part of that, plus my family and I love the community,” Satterwhite said. “But I am confident Brett, who has a deep understanding of the utility business and a collaborative leadership style, will continue Kentucky Power’s mission and be an active member in the region.”

Mattison has a Bachelor of Science degree in business finance from Louisiana Tech University and a commercial banking degree from the American Institute of Banking.

Kentucky Power, based in Ashland, Ky., provides electric service to about 168,000 customers in 20 eastern Kentucky counties.
