Lone Star Natural Gas Liquids will construct a new natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionation facility at its operation in Mont Belvieu, Texas.
This is the company’s seventh fractionation facility. The 150,000 barrel per day fractionator will provide the capacity required to supplement the increased demand for fractionation. The facility is scheduled to be operational in the first quarter of 2020.
Fractionation is the process of taking natural gas liquids and separating the various elements to distill it to a useable product.
Lone Star’s fifth fractionation facility opened in July 2018, while the sixth facility is currently under construction. It is expected to be in service during the first quarter of 2019. It will have a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day.
Once the sixth and seventh facilities are operational, Lone Star will be capable of fractionating over 900,000 barrels per day.
Lone Star announced that it would also expand the Lone Star Express Pipeline. The company will add a new 352-mile, 24-inch pipeline extending from Lone Star’s pipeline system near Wink, Texas to Lone Star Express’ 30-inch pipeline south of Fort Worth, Texas.
This pipeline will allow Lone Star to transport gas from the Delaware and Permian Basins. It is expected to be in service by early in the fourth quarter of 2020.
Lone Star is a subsidiary of Dallas-based Energy Transfer.
