Duke Energy Renewables, Invenergy host ribbon-cutting ceremony for Shoreham Solar Commons project on Long Island
Duke Energy and Invenergy hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for Duke Energy Renewables’ Shoreham Solar Commons Project, a 24.9-megawatt (MW) facility near Brookhaven, New York.
More than 50 community, business, and energy leaders attended the event.
Shoreham Solar Commons was placed into service July 1. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is purchasing the power under a 20-year agreement.
“As we continue to provide affordable, renewable energy to customers across the United States, we are especially pleased to be here for our first renewables project in the state of New York,” Rob Caldwell, president of Duke Energy Renewables and Distributed Energy Technology, said. “The solar project will deliver tremendous economic and environmental benefits to the state and local community.”
Duke Energy Renewables acquired the project from Invenergy, who constructed the project on the grounds of the former Tallgrass Golf Course.
