The GridWise Alliance awarded Thursday an Outstanding Progress Award to the state of Ohio for efforts related to its grid modernization expansion efforts.

GridWise cited, in particular, the efforts of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) for services rendered in the form of the PowerForward Roadmap. PowerForward was published earlier this year as a means of envisioning the future electric distribution grid. PUCO foresees that grid as an open-access platform giving customers ever greater control over their consumption, with the ability to roll in applications of their choosing.

“The PowerForward Roadmap is bold, and we see it as our duty to chart a path forward for Ohio,” PUCO Chairman Asim Haque said. “We are thrilled to see Ohio being recognized as one of the most innovative states in terms of grid modernization policy.”

PowerForward took 18 months to build, with a focus on public dialogue. In being recognized by GridWise, the roadmap also has its place solidified throughout the country, as those awards come from a ranking of grid modernization efforts across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
