Institute for Energy Research appoints new council

The Institute for Energy Research (IER) named five appointees to a new advisory council dedicated to advancing solutions to problems in the energy industry.

The members of this inaugural advisory council include Alex Alexiev, a policy expert who worked for the Rand Corporation and was a senior analyst and project director for the Pentagon. He also advised the first democratically-elected prime minister of Bulgaria and worked at a number of think tanks in Washington D.C. He is the author of a dozen books and hundreds of articles on energy, geopolitics, U.S. strategy, Russia and Eastern Europe.

David Kreutzer, an economist who worked at The Heritage Foundation from 2008 to 2018, was also named to the council. He served as senior research fellow in energy economics and climate change and as senior research fellow in labor markets and trade. He also served on President Donald Trump’s transition team at the Environmental Protection Agency.

Other council appointees include Lisa Linowes, executive director for The Wind Action Group and senior fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation; Robert Michaels, professor of economics at California State University, Fullerton; and Hilary Sills, president of Sills Associates with over 40 years of experience in government relations, legislative and regulatory advocacy, international affairs and corporate communications.

“We are thrilled to welcome these accomplished and trusted advisors into the IER fold,” IER President Thomas Pyle said. “At IER we pride ourselves on our ability to convene the best and brightest minds with respect to free market energy policies. The members of the Advisory Council will provide IER with expert guidance and insight that will help us shape our free market positions. We are grateful for their willingness to share their expertise and look forward to working with them.”
