In October 2018, the Northeast Gas Association (NGA) was officially certified to train field leaders across the nine states they cover, following approval from the MEA Energy Association (MEA).

The NGA’s Field Leader Training Program addresses shift supervisors, crew leaders and foremen alike in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The MEA Field Leader Training focuses on leadership skills, such as conflict resolution and coaching crew, rather than technical qualities, through a variety of scenarios and casework.

“A significant number of retirements continues to impact the knowledge and skill of our field leaders,” MEA President Patrick Van Beek said. “It is more important than ever for natural gas and electric distribution utilities to recognize and identify leadership potential as early as possible. The alliance between MEA and NGA allows more field personnel to operate safely and efficiently, which ultimately helps the industry as a whole.”

The MEA is a national trade association that provides and certifies education, leadership development and industry connections for the energy industry.
