Nowak appointed to NARUC board post

Ellen Nowak has been appointed to the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Board of Directors.

NARUC President Nick Wagner, of the Iowa Utilities Board, issued the appointment of Nowak, who has been a member of the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin since July 2011 and became chairperson in March 2015. She was re-appointed to the PSC as the chairperson in December 2018 for a term that expires in 2023.

“I am so pleased to rejoin my NARUC colleagues and I appreciate the appointments from both Gov. (Scott) Walker and President Wagner, which will allow me to continue to play an integral role in utility regulation at the state and national levels,” Nowak said.

In her capacity as NARUC’s former first vice president, Nowak served on several committees, has represented NARUC before federal bodies, and moderated panels at NARUC’s national meetings. She holds a law degree from Marquette University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

“NARUC is fortunate to have Chair Nowak return as a member and we will benefit greatly from her exceptional history of regulatory leadership,” Wagner said. “She is well-respected by her state peers and we are excited, as she will provide an immediate positive impact to NARUC.”

The NARUC Board of Directors consists of the president, the first vice president, the second vice president, the treasurer, each past president who is an active member and 20 other active members representing state commissions.
