NV Energy seeks to boost capacity, resources

NV Energy, based in Las Vegas, Nev., is soliciting request for proposals (RFP) as a means of bolstering long-term firm capacity and energy resources for its customers beginning in 2020.

Officials said the resource need of 400 to 600 megawatts listed in the RFP is for summer peak planning capacity, noting the formal request is open to both conventional and renewable energy resources and can include asset acquisition, tolling agreement or a toll with a purchase option.

The RFP bidding deadline is Feb. 11, 2019, and winning project submissions may require the approval of the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.

According to the RFP guidelines, proposals are for a three-year term beginning in 2020 and must be capable of delivering energy to serve load in NV Energy’s retail service territory. Also, following legislative and regulatory provisions, the utility will evaluate the proposals based on price and specific non-price factors.

NV Energy provides an array of services to 1.4 million customers throughout Nevada, as well as more than 43 million tourists. NV Energy, Inc. is a holding company whose principal subsidiaries, Nevada Power Company and Sierra Pacific Power Company, are doing business as NV Energy.

Additional details, bidding documents and response links can be found on the company’s website.
