Korsnick elected president and CEO of NEI

Maria G. Korsnick, former senior vice president of Exelon’s Northeast operations, was elected as the Nuclear Energy Institute’s (NEI’s) new president and chief executive officer on Tuesday.

“I couldn’t be more proud to have the opportunity to lead NEI and advance nuclear energy,” Korsnick said.

Korsnick brings experience from 30 years in the nuclear industry, as well as proven leadership skills and technical expertise from previous positions with NEI, Constellation Energy, Exelon and the Fukushima Response Steering Committee.

“In my view, nuclear is the unsung hero. It’s incredibly positive for our country and for the environment,” Korsnick said. “I am passionate about the key role nuclear energy can play for our nation. The nuclear industry is facing challenges, and I’m looking forward to help strengthen the policies, regulations and public support that will ensure it has a robust future.”

Korsnick will replace current President and CEO Marvin Fertel, whose retirement will be effective on Dec. 31.

“Maria is highly regarded for her strong leadership skills and exceptional technical expertise,” NEI Chairman Don Brandt said. “She will drive the organization’s effectiveness in a challenging and exciting time. Nuclear energy has a vital role to play in our nation’s energy future as a reliable producer of carbon-free electricity to improve human health and raise living standards around the globe.”
