Entergy said recently that customers of Entergy Texas and Entergy Arkansas have seen significant savings as a result of the utilities joining the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), a regional transmission organization, five years ago.

Entergy Texas customers saved approximately $198 million between 2014, when the utility joined MISO, and 2018. Entergy Arkansas customers have saved approximately $223 million over the same period.

“Our first priority is to provide safe, reliable electric service to our customers at a reasonable rate,” Stuart Barret, vice president of customer service, said. “When we proposed joining MISO, we told our customers that this would be a good business decision that would benefit their bill each month. We believe we have made good on that promise.”

Entergy noted that the savings for Entergy Texas customers were more than double what the company initially projected.

“Our membership in MISO has been a highly effective tool in helping us control costs and keep our rates among the lowest in the nation,” Kurt Castleberry, director of resource planning for Entergy Arkansas, said. “Our customers have saved on average about $45 million per year since we joined.”
