Dominion Energy Ohio has begun providing home energy efficiency assessments to residential customers for $50, as part of their Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program.

“This program has helped more than 28,000 homeowners since 2010 to find both quick steps to save energy and to identify larger projects that could save them considerable money,” Jim Eck, Dominion Energy vice president and general manager of Ohio & West Virginia Distribution, said.

The new offer is being particularly targeted to those homes with wildly fluctuating temperatures, the damp and drafty, those struggling with mold or inefficient cooling and heating equipment coupled with an older or poorly built home. The program identifies high utility usage and similar issues to assist. For the $50 assessment, it can then provide a rebate of up to $1,250 for completion of recommendations said assessment brings to light.

Those updates can also cut bills with such recommendations as air sealing and insulation, HVAC equipment upgrades, and window and door replacements. The program also provides things like discounted NEST Thermostat E units to allow homeowners to control their thermostat remotely, as well as carbon monoxide detectors, showerheads, faucet aerators, and water heater pipe wrap.

Following home assessments, customers also receive visits from energy auditors for diagnostic testing and furthered evaluation.
