Salt River Project employees set record for EPRI Technology Transfer Awards
The Salt River Project (SRP) set records at the Electric Power Research Institute’s (EPRI’s) annual Technology Transfer Awards this year, taking several honors for their research and development efforts.
“The 2018 Technology Transfer Award winners have demonstrated initiative, collaboration, and leadership and represent the very best in power industry R&D,” Arshad Mansoor, senior vice president of Research and Development at EPRI, said. “They’re shaping, enhancing and transforming the power system of the future by harnessing new and evolving technologies that can deliver benefits to their companies and the entire power industry.”
In all, 23 SRP employees took home awards. Max Burger and Rob Track received recognition for their leading roles in a research demonstration project that installed more than 250 energy management circuit breakers to allow utilities and customers in 19 states to monitor and control their electricity use.
Other included employees were Kathy Knoop and Alejandra Mendez, who managed a study surrounding the impact increasing numbers of electric vehicles would have in SRP’s service territory, as well as the effects the increase in energy consumption would have on the grid.
“Receiving so many awards this year is a real testament to the innovation leadership and hard work from all the SRP staff involved in EPRI research projects,” Chico Hunter, manager of SRP Research and Development, said. “In the world of research, you try to solve difficult problems with no guarantee of success. These projects illustrate how SRP employees not only found solutions but put those solutions into action.”
