Massachusetts town works with Eversource to install EV charging stations

The Town of Bedford, Mass., has partnered with energy company Eversource to install six electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

Eversource is also working with the towns of Greenfield, Medway, and Milton to install EV charging stations. Further, it is working with the Homewood Suites in Hadley, the Marine Biological Laboratory in Falmouth, and several Mass Audubon locations to do the same.

“In Massachusetts, more than 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions come from the transportation sector,” Eversource Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Penni Conner said. “We are actively working with municipalities and companies across the state to address this issue by installing more EV charging stations and connecting them to energy saving solutions. With the added convenience and access, we hope that more motorists will make the switch to electric vehicles.”

Through its EV charging station program, Eversource covers all electrical infrastructure costs needed for the stations and manages the process. Bedford, and other participating municipalities, only need to purchase and install the charging equipment. The charging stations are located at various schools and the town hall.

“Massachusetts is working diligently to meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals. Thanks to our partnership with Eversource, we are proud to expand EV charging access and encourage our staff, students, and parents to charge while visiting our schools,” Bedford Director of Facilities Taissir Alani said. “Additionally, we hope residents and visitors will take advantage of the stations around town hall as they visit our downtown area.”

Eversource’s Electrical Vehicle (EV) Charging Station Program has the goal of having 300,000 electric vehicles on the road by 2025. The company is committed to installing nearly 3,500 individual EV ports in up to 400 locations across Massachusetts by 2020.
